Byzantine Music

Byzantine music and psalmody and its pedagogical significance, particularly for children, plays a major part in the Greek Orthodox Church. It has inspired the great hymnographers and made them great teachers of the art of Byzantine music. This music continues to instruct and move people of every age and class.

Back in 1986, Father Joseph Paliouras founded the School of Byzantine Music under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain. In a two part interview with Pemptousia, he speaks about the School of Byzantine Music, how it started and the progress it has made since it was formed.
